After the update the server hangs with windows 2003 bootscreen.
1. DL 380 G4 Storage Server (San Management Server)
2. Service Release 5.6 is installed
3. no iSCSI Features installed.
4. first boot after .Net 2.0 successfull
5. last boot after all packages -> Server hangs.
any ideas?

Solution
Unfortunately the upgrade has not completed successfully. You will need to restore your server back to step 2 (Storage Server 2k3 with SP1 installed) and do the upgrade again.
Before you run the upgrade this time, don't join it to a domain or if it is in a domain, remove it. Then run the upgrade.
Just for the sake of clarity, the steps should look something like the following.
1) Restore OS and apply SR 5.6
2) Verify server is not in a domain
3) Run the upgrade
Hope this helps.

Re: DL380 Upgrade from w2k3 to R2 fails
thanks Caryd
you bring me on the right way.
1) Restore OS and apply SR 5.6
2) Use local Admin Account for installation
3) success
no need to bring the server in an Workgoup.
