Can a cifs share use nfs protocal at the same time

I'm not sure, on this, I have a cifs share
running on 11.31, contractor's are requesting
to share the same mount as a nfs share
can this be done, also I have a user defined
for this share, can someone help me on this..

Thanks...

Re: Can a cifs share use nfs protocal at the same time

Daniel,

Of course you can share out a directory via both CIFS and NFS but this may lead to locking issues. CIFS has its builtin locking system, so a file may appear locked completely to NFS of visa versa.

I think its a better Idea to stick to one way of sharing things.
This way files can be shared much more easilly.

UNIX has its ways of mounting a CIFS share through CIFSclient or Samba client.
Windows nowadays have its way of accessing an NFS share.

I think going through CIFS is most transparent if you want to share things out to both worlds.

Re: Can a cifs share use nfs protocal at the same time

I tired it many times on Linux it works fine , since the NFS & CIFS protocols are not platform dependent , it should work on HP-UX 11i as well.

Thanks

Re: Can a cifs share use nfs protocal at the same time

Thank You, for your reply,

I have not tried this before, using both
CIFS and NFS at the same time, I added
NFS to this share, its working,

and hopefully with no problems.

Thank You,
