Duplicate NFS mountpoits in /etc/mnttab
I'm having a weird problem with NFS mounts. I have Sun/Debian server which is exporting two folders to multiple (HP C8000/HP-UX 11.11) clients over NFS. Suprisingly one of those clients (hostname "client") seems to mount those folders twice and that's causing major delay in accessing those folders.
Mount command gives me this output:
***

***
As you can see there are two mounts on mountpoit /net/server/home.
My /etc/auto_master on this problematic workstation is set up like this:
***
/net -hosts -nosuid,soft,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,nobrowse
***
So does anyone have any ideas on this?

Re: Duplicate NFS mountpoits in /etc/mnttab
Since this is an 11.11 system and you're obviously using an automounter, my first question is: are you using the Enhanced AutoFS product on this system? If not, that's you're first step:
http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=ENHAUTO
If you install the latest version of this product and still have the problem let me know. Trust me, if you contact HP Support with this problem that's going to be the first suggestion they make.
In fact, I'd *highly* recommend you install this Enhanced AutoFS on *any* 11.11 system in your environment using an automounter.
Regards,
Dave

Re: Duplicate NFS mountpoits in /etc/mnttab
Yes I have Enchanced AutoFS installed. It is bit a old version, though but it's the same version as in the other workstations.

Re: Duplicate NFS mountpoits in /etc/mnttab
How recent are your NFS/ONC patches on this system? I know there were problems with duplicate mnttab entries in the past that we resolved with patches.

Dave

Re: Duplicate NFS mountpoits in /etc/mnttab
The version was 0402 but today I updated it to 0701. Unfortunately it didn't help. The problem exists still.

Re: Duplicate NFS mountpoits in /etc/mnttab
I wasn't talking about the Enhanced AutoFS package version, I meant the version of the regular ONC patches. The piece I'm most interested in is libnsl. If you could tell me what this says:
# what /usr/lib/libnsl.1 | grep PHNE_3
I'm curious what version of libnsl you're running. If you're all patched up on libnsl and you're still seeing this problem then you'll likely need to open a call with HP Support and get them working on the root cause.
Is this something you see frequently? If so, do you have a way to reproduce the problem at will? I can try reproducing your problem on my systems if it's something you can document in a step-by-step fashion (as opposed to "it just happens sometimes").
Regards,
Dave

Unfotunately I haven't found a good way to reproduce the problem. Especially the actual symptom (slow access on NFS mounts) I've seen happening only a few times. Our customer reports that it happens frequently, though.
