FTP List files not working

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all well.
Have any of you come across this. Where if you ftp into a HP-UX 11iv3 machine as restricted user.

If you try to issue an ls command via script on windows you get a response

but

If you use a client like Filezilla, it doesn't list any files.

You can upload on both, but you can't download on Filezilla.

Using a script, has no issues.hmmm..

Any one have the similar issues and how did you solve it.

Thanks :)

Re: FTP List files not working

Hi,

Try creating in homedir of ftp's user "usr/bin/" directory tree. Then copy from /usr/sbin/ls command inside the new "usr/bin/" structure.

Rgds.

Doesn't "man ftpd" cover all the details?

If you have multiple guest users, then you
can save a little disk space by creating hard
links instead of actual copies for all users
after the first one.

Re: FTP List files not working

I have created the usr/sbin/ls directory in the ftp users root dir and still the same thing.. no file list on gui clients.

I did forget to mention that the users home directorys' where chrooted...

so maybe that is why the windows gui clients are having trouble listing the files..

Re: FTP List files not working

Try copying /sbin/ls to the user accounts /usr/bin/ls.

If you look there is a difference between /sbin/ls and /usr/bin/ls.

Re: FTP List files not working

Thanks Rita..

Just tried what you said and still not file list.

I can see that the client issues the LIST command.

It then says
150 Opening Binary mode data connection
226 Transfer complete.

hmmm.. any more ideas?

As usual, showing actual commands with their
actual output can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Did you read the stuff about "guest"
accounts? Did you do what it says? What,
exactly, did you do? Who owns what where,
with what permissions? "ls -l" is your
friend (and my psychic powers are weak).

I assumed that that's what you meant by
"restricted", but it's nice to know without
needing to assume anything.

> [...] no file list on gui clients.

There's probably no file list on _any_
client, so you could probably run your tests
from the HP-UX system itself, too.

Did you do a Forum search for problems like
this before you started asking? There should
be many old threads on this topic, most of
which will include solutions.

Re: FTP List files not working

Have you tried other utilities than Filezilla?
Do they work ok?

Re: FTP List files not working

Hi again,

A lot of issues as yours have been posted in forums, in several cases the issue have been solved changing from passive mode to active mode. Is insane... :) As Rita said, Have you tried other utilities than Filezilla?

Rgds.

Re: FTP List files not working

Yes, i've tried differnt methods.

The issue only exists with gui based clients, ie FileZilla and WSftp Pro.

The commandline clients work fine.Issuing ls displays the list of files and folders.

Could be just an MS Windows thing.

Thanx for your help guys.!!

Cheers :)
