HP-UX 11.00 - rdist: connection lost

I'm running a couple of ancient HP-UX 11.00 systems, and I need to synchronize some directories. When running an "rdist -v" to see what would be updated, after 290 lines I see -

rdist: connection lost

There's nothing in the syslog of either system, and I'm not sure where to turn for more information.

distfile -

HOSTS = ( viperx )

FILES = ( /scripts )

${FILES} -> ${HOSTS}
# install -b -R ;
install ;
notify john ;

Tail of output of running "rdist -v" -

need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/sqlRevuPart3.sql
need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/src.sql
need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/tabprivs3.sql
need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/tempFiles.sql
need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/trgr.sql
need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/x.sql
need to install: /scripts/DBA/scripts/x2.sql
need to update: /scripts/DBA/beep_addr.txt
need to update: /scripts/DBA/tcsdba.txt
rdist: lost connection

Both systems (one's a clone) have the latest patch for rdist, PHNE_33790. You can see on the install line where I took out the -b -R to troubleshoot, to no avail.

Thanks in advance.
