HP-UX Fresh Installation domain win2k3 join problem

Hi All,

After my fresh installation of HP-UX 11.11 OS on workstation c3700, Iam unable to join domain as planned for a data protector which require alias (abcdef.com )of my workstation alive on the network.

/etc/hosts
==========
.abcdef.com

hostname:
=========
OK
Find an attache error file after DNS,Domain added to this workstation before adding on IP it works fine but not able to ping via alias.

The first step is to have the system removed from the domain so the join can succeed.

Next thing I would make sure is there is an entry in /etc/host supporting this workstation name and all aliases it needs.

IP address shortname shortname.yournetwork.com

You can have as many as you want.

Then make sure there is an /etc/nsswitch.conf file. By default after an installation there is not, there are a few candidate releases.

Check this stuff, retest and post results.

The files you have listed are templates with examples, copy the one which fits most for your use as nsswitch.conf and edit it accordingly.

Hi,

created a new /etc/nsswitch.conf with following details and this file works fine in my another production server.

passwd: compat
group: compat
hosts: files [NOTFOUND=continue] dns
networks: files [NOTFOUND=continue] dns
protocols: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
rpc: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
publickey: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
netgroup: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files
automount: files nis
aliases: files nis
services: nis [NOTFOUND=return] files



Still iam unable to ping shortname from network and with IP it reply successful.

Hi,

you have to make an entry of your workstation in the hosts of your DNS, so the shortname directs to an ip address.

Find below details after making changes at DNS site problem still persist.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc
host file entry

xx.x.xxx.xxx workstation.mynetwork.com


C:\>ping workstation
Ping request could not find host workstation. Please check the name and try again
