HP connects attendees to the world during the Copa Do Mundo Brasil 2014!

By Juliano Forti, Global Product Line Manager, HP Networking

Juliano FortiBem-vindo – that’s “welcome” in Portuguese – to the 20th edition of the World Cup! I am proud and excited to announce that the World Cup is being hosted in Brazil, my home country, the capitol of the Futebol.

Without a doubt, I will be cheering on the most successful 5-time World Cup champion in futebol – team Brasil. Through the broadcast of the World Cup games, many will learn about the beauty of Brazil and my very home city of Sao Paulo.

Juliano Forti_1a.pngAs a Global Product Line Manager for HP Networking, I am doubly proud and very excited to say that HP will also be at the World Cup as well, connecting fans through HP networking wireless solutions. Hosting and planning the infrastructure logistics of the World Cup is difficult work, and so I’m pleased that our technology will help the tens of thousands of fans upload content concurrently to their favorite social networks, stay in communication with their friends, and follow the game. It truly is a grande vitória for HP as well as the fans.

HP wireless networks, with differentiating features such as access points that operate exceptionally well in very densely populated environments, service the stadiums in three different cities providing internet connectivity and location-based services – Porto Alegre, Manaus, and Curitiba. I would like to share some information about these cities.

  • Porto Alegre: This is one of my favorite cities. With the good influence of Europeans, Porto Alegre is famous for its restaurants and chimarrão, or Mate, a popular drink in malls and outdoor markets. It’s also one of the safest cities too, and the games will be held at Estadio Beira-Rio, which holds 42,991 people.
  • Manaus: Many people think Manaus is the gateway of the Amazon, but this city is more than that, with a lot of sights and sounds in addition to fishing. What makes me proud of Brazil is the fact that while Manaus is far away from all the other cities, the government still invested in building a stadium called Estadio Amazonia, seating 39,118 people.
  • Curitiba: Finally, we have deployed wireless networks at Curitiba, also one of my favorite cities. Curitiba reminds me of my hometown Sao Paulo with good restaurants. The games here will be played in Arena da Baixada, which seats 38,533 people.

This looks to be a very exciting month ahead, and I’m looking forward to seeing Brazil aim for their record 6th World Cup. Additionally, I’m excited that HP was able get the opportunity to help hundreds of thousands of fans better share their content and connect to their friends during the games. Please follow the next couple of blogs as I delve into the wireless technology and network management at these games.

Hi Juliano!
Truly here in Brazil we are very happy and proud to see how HP has contributed to make this the best Fifa World Cup ever. Working closely on this project I could see how HP Wireless Solutions are helping the top 4 Service Providers in Brazil to make the offload of their 3G network, offering a smoothly migration for their clients to HP WiFi while maintaining a good quality of service to fans connected on these 3 stadiums. Let's go Brazil!!! Let's go HP! Making it matter!!!
