Help with Network Routes
Basically, what I want to do is, I would want a system with global ip (eg: 202.144.138.122) to ping/access my HP-UX server which is with private IP address (192.168.1.23). I have all the routers/switches in between properly route traffic between global and private ips, but I can't understand what to insert into my network route table in HP-UX system via SAM.
When i ping 192.168.1.23 from 202.144.138.122, there is no response.. But when I plug in a windows system with the ip 192.168.1.23, it can be accessed via the 202.xxx.xxx.xxx ip. So, the problem is with the Unix route.
What values do I have to insert into the network route on my HP - UX machine(192.168.1.23)
The gateway for HP-UX is 192.168.1.23, and the gateway for global ip is (202.144.138.137).
Thank you.

Re: Help with Network Routes
When you put windows system, what have you done on the windows system about routing? Have you done the same routing settings on the hp-ux box?
For windows you can type "netstat -nr" and can see your routings. You should add the same routes for hp-ux box.

Re: Help with Network Routes
There is no firewall issue in between, because, when I plug in a windows laptop with IP(192.168.1.23), I can ping it from 202......

Re: Help with Network Routes
2-)Are there any other host on the 192.168.1.x subnet that can ping hp-ux successfuly?
3-)Can you send both windows and hp-ux "netstat -nr" outputs?

Destination: 192.168.1.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.23
Also, the system with IP 202.144.138.122 can ping all the other windows systems on the 192.168.1.x subnet.
Following is the output of netstat -nr from HP-UX
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Interface Pmtu
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 0 lo0 32808
192.168.1.23 192.168.1.23 UH 0 lan0 32808
192.168.1.0 192.168.1.23 U 2 lan0 1500
127.0.0.0 127.0.0.1 U 0 lo0 32808
default 192.168.1.1 UG 0 lan0 1500

Re: Help with Network Routes
>>Destination: 192.168.1.0
>>Gateway: 192.168.1.23
I dont understand, you shouldnt add this route, when you set your IP address to 192.168.1.23/255.255.255.0 this route automatically added to your route config.
Your routing table seems ok to me.
1-)Do you have IPfilter configured?
2-)Can you ping your gateway from hp-ux or can you ping the hp-ux from your gateway(192.168.1.1)?
