Hpux 11.23. multipathing with ISCSI
Hello ,
Is there a way to set up multipathing within hpux with an ISCSI initiator. if i install 2 nics does the initiator handles this itself or do i need something like APA to provide failover in case of an adapter failure.
The unix version used is 11.23. It's quite hard to get a steady answer within the provided documentation or forum answers.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Hpux 11.23. multipathing with ISCSI
Never worked with iSCSI and hp-ux together, but I assume you need to use APA to create a "trunc" in order to get more bandwith and/or redundancy.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Hpux 11.23. multipathing with ISCSI
Hello Torsten,
Thanks for the reply,
But i need to know for sure if APA is the answer because APA for 11.23 needs to be purchased from HP. The 11.31 is free downloadable but i'm almost sure this won't work on 11.23.

Re: Hpux 11.23. multipathing with ISCSI
But this is using the network, so if you make the network faster and redundant, you make the same for all the network connections, right?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

This post has a similar discussion:
http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/System-Administration/ISCSI-on-HP-UX-11-31/td-p/4665087
See Dave Olkers reply.
While the discussion still leaves some questions, it would make sense that APA would work for what you are trying to do.
You would have a single interface (lan900) that is made up of multiple NICs that you can configure for redundancy. Now you would not see this as LUN multipathing in the traditional sense since the iSCSI storage would only use the one lan900 APA interface, but the effect would be the same.
