Joining Remote Domain
I am dialing through VPN out of Windows XP into a remote Windows NT Server. How do I make it join a local domain on the NT Server machine. All I really need is it to pull the email from Exchange, into Outlook 2000. Any thoughts? thanks

Re: Joining Remote Domain
You don't necessarily need to have the machine join the domain if you don't mind Outlook prompting you for ID and password every time you launch it.
VPN in, then add the service for the exchange server. It will prompt you for ID, password and mailbox during the setup.
Afterwards, under Tools, Services, Exchange Server, Properties, then the advanced tab, change the authentication to none to have it prompt you each time.
-----
To join the domain, you can VPN in, but will either need to bee an Admin to add yourself to the domain, or will need to have an Admin setup the machine account prior to you atempting to join it. The setting to change, can be found under Start, Settings, Control Panel, system, Network Identification Tab. Click on the "Properties" button, and enter the domain name to join.

Re: Joining Remote Domain
Well i tried what you said, about joining the domain, and it still will not allow me to. I am the admin, so I make the changes on the server. I can see the pc connect to the server through vpn, but it just does nothing after that, i cant access exchange off of that server, and i cant view any other pc in the domain. I even tried to just pull the email without being in domain, and it still will not, it says cannot find exchange server. anything else, i am missing?

Re: Joining Remote Domain
First thought is: what ports are you blocking?
Also, there are required steps to have an XP system join a W2k or NT Domain.
You will have to "tweak" XP and may have to set up an lmhosts file.
