LAN card problem

Hi,

Here is a description of the problem:

A new LAN card was installed on both on our servers. The servers are the same.
L 2000 HP-UX 11.0 name: lan3 driver: btlan5

I also installed patches "QPK1100, PHCO_21187, PHNE_21773" on both servers.

The new LAN cards are both set to 100FD Auto-off.

'lanadmin -x lan3' => Current Speed = 100 Full-Duplex Auto-Negotiation-OFF

'ifconfig lan3' shows the same basic information, except, of course the IP address.

'lanscan -v' shows the H/W state as up.

Our network switch that it is connected to is set for 100FD Auto-off.

The 100FD light is on, but there is no connection (link light is off).
Our network group tested it end-to-end on the cables and it is fine up to the LAN card.

On back of the LAN card the '"100" light is off and the "polling" yellow light is off too.

There is no connection to the LAN card.

Does anybody have any ideas as to what the problem is?

Either a bad card or the port on the switch is not set to be 100FD auto-off

Hi,

The problem has been resolved by HP Support.

1) 'lanadmin -x 3' (check status, it looked ok at this point).

2) 'lanadmin' -> 'menu' -> 'reset' (this reset the lan card w/o errors).

3) 'ifconfig lan3 1.2.3.4 netmask 255.255.0.0 up'

This fixed the problem by resetting the LAN card and enabling it.

Hey Gino,

Out of curiosity; if you reboot the switch that your server is on, or simply pull the cables on your server while the server is still up, do you experience the same problem again? Do you have to reset the card again to get it working? I'm having a similar sounding problem with the 4-port 100MB card (A5506A), but I don't want to reset the interface everytime I reboot the switch.
