My vip ip and host not pinging each other.
Hi,
My vip ip and host not pinging each other.
.
my host entry is:-uatdata1
##***Cluster Node IP Address ***
192.168.6.5 uatdata1 uatdata1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.6.6 uatdata2 uatdata2.mpmkvvcl.com
##***Private IP Addresses ***
15.1.1.1 uatdata1-priv uatdata1-priv.mpmkvvcl.com
15.1.1.2 uatdata2-priv uatdata2-priv.mpmkvvcl.com
## *****Cluster VIP's*****
192.168.6.25 uatdata1-vip uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.6.26 uatdata2-vip uatdata2-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
##*************application server****************
192.168.5.5 uatapp1 uatapp1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.5.6 uatapp2 uatapp2.mpmkvvcl.com
My another host entry is uatdata2:-
127.0.0.1 localhost loopback
192.168.4.5 prodata1 prodata1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.4.6 prodata2 prodata2.mpmkvvcl.com
##***Cluster Node IP Address ***
192.168.6.5 uatdata1 uatdata1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.6.6 uatdata2 uatdata2.mpmkvvcl.com
##***Private IP Addresses ***
15.1.1.1 uatdata1-priv uatdata1-priv.mpmkvvcl.com
15.1.1.2 uatdata2-priv uatdata2-priv.mpmkvvcl.com
## *****Cluster VIP's*****
192.168.6.25 uatdata1-vip uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.6.26 uatdata2-vip uatdata2-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
##******application server****************
192.168.5.5 uatapp1 uatapp1.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.5.6 uatapp2 uatapp2.mpmkvvcl.com
192.168.2.3 appsdev2 appsdev2.mpmkvvcl.com
Example:
ping uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
not reply
(Both nodes are proper host entry but not vip addresses pinging each other )
other address ping each other but vip address not pinging
(VIP address is a cluster ip address)
Its a cluster ip
How can resolved that problem.
Thanks

Re: Host name ping to another ip.
You probably need to check your DNS set up. My guess is that the system is querying a DNS server that has an incorrect entry for this host.
Try using 'nslookup' or 'nsquery' to see what exactly is happening. For example:
nslookup uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
or
nsquery uatdata1-vip.mpmkvvcl.com
You should also check your /etc/resolv.conf file and see what DNS server(s) you are using. You can also check /etc/nsswitch.conf to see what order things are queried in (probably DNS, then files).
If you are querying DNS first the you need to check the DNS servers specified in /etc/resolv.conf and make sure they have the correct IP addresses configured for these hosts.

Re: My vip ip and host not pinging each other.
Check my reply in your other thread: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Networking/Host-name-ping-to-another-ip/m-p/5434741
I think you may have host to IP resolution problems.

Re: My vip ip and host not pinging each other.
Can you ping via the IP address rather than the host name?

I dont know what are you saying.
I already send my ip host file on trail mail.

after restarted serviceguard its vip address not ping each other
and
nslookup shows all details properly.

Re: My vip ip and host not pinging each other.
Are you sure your packages and their virtual IP addresses are up and configured?
If you do a 'netstat -in' on each server in the cluster do you see the appropriate IP addresses?
Does 'cmviewcl -v' show all packages to be up and running?
