Re: NTP issues on hp 11.23 Ia64

Hi,

what does the command says ?

ntpdate -q timeserver_ip

also, imho windows timeserver in DC is not a good choice for hp-ux.

Re: NTP issues on hp 11.23 Ia64

Hi,

it's possible that ntp service behind this ip does not respond. try to confiure another ntp ip. as before i said, ntp server on DC will get you in trouble :)

Re: NTP issues on hp 11.23 Ia64

Hi,
Are you sure NTP server(128.1.1.26) is up? And you can reach the server?Any firewall between your server and NTP server that can you block to reach NTP server's port?

Re: NTP issues on hp 11.23 Ia64

Hi,
can't we use one NTP server for two diffrent client? otherwise shall i use any other server to configure in ux server?

Re: NTP issues on hp 11.23 Ia64

You can use NTP server with many clients.

Please be sure you can reach the NTP server. Use tcpdump on the client and you can see whether any response is coming from the NTP server or not.

Re: NTP issues on hp 11.23 Ia64

If every shop put all it's servers sync'ing externally to NTP-time-servers, then they would get overloaded. (As many of them currently are..)

You might set one internal server to one external NTP site; and set a second server to a different external NTP site.
Then...set all the rest of your internal servers to sync to one of those two.

That way those time-server providers are not overloaded and you are two good sources to maintain true time.

NOTE: An external time source server may go out of commission at any time. You can check it's site listing to see if server is still available for use. Or it is a good practice to either manually set up something to ensure time is correct or set up a process to check.

Rita
