Network Card Problems on HP9000
subnet for our training room network. Everytime I boot the machine, the HP
Network Interfaces driver fails, even though the card is working, when the
machine has booted. If i remove the logical interface, and just have the main
interface and IP address, the HP network Interfaces no longer fail on boot.
Anyone seen this problem before, and know how to fix it?

Re: Network Card Problems on HP9000
Also, how are you trying to do this?
If I read the query correctly, you have one network interface, and are trying
to add a 2nd, logicl, address to it after applying the 1st and "normal"
address, or am I wrong in this assumption?
What does the /etc/rc.log file show for these error conditions?
Without the above information, it will not be easy to assist you.

Re: Network Card Problems on HP9000
I am trying to add a logical interface in SAM, under the network interfaces
section, it assigns the card name as lan0:1, ip of 192.168.100.25, mask of
255.255.255.0, and an alias of dmukhp1_b. The main address is 10.10.1.24 with a
mask of 255.255.0.0, and the alias of dmukhp1_a, it is assigned as lan0. I can
ping the IP address quite happily from both networks, and can telnet to the box
from both networks, it tells me the card is enabled and working in SAM, even
though it fails on booting the machine.
Here is my rc.log.

Re: Network Card Problems on HP9000
/sbin/rc2.d/S320hpether start
I believe that having used SAM, there is the known problem of SAM adding in the
MAC address into the //etc/rc.config/hpetherconf file, which can cause
problems.
I have used my HP-UX 11.0 system to add a logical IP address using SAM. I can
replicate your error in the rc.log!
I checked my hpetherconf file and removed the STATION address, and this cureed
the problem.
Before:
HP_ETHER_INTERFACE_NAME[1]=lan0:1
HP_ETHER_STATION_ADDRESS[1]=0x080009FD2A1C
result of doing /sbin/rc2.d/S320hpether start:
ERROR: lan0:1 interface | PPA :
Error - must enter a PPA Number
Usage: lanadmin [-a] [-A station_addr]
[-b] [-B on|off]
[-m] [-M mtu_size]
[-R]
[-s] [-S speed]
[-x] [-X] options
PPA
[-e]
[-t]
snip.....snip
ok then changed the hpetherconf file:
HP_ETHER_INTERFACE_NAME[1]=lan0:1
HP_ETHER_STATION_ADDRESS[1]=
and now:
hpwing04 # /sbin/rc2.d/S320hpether start
hpwing04 #
May I suggest you ensure the latest SAM patch is installed on to your system as
a precaution.
