Networking 2000

I've just started my N+ classes and decided to try to network the 2 computers i have here at the house. I am having a problem with it saying "Network Cable is Unplugged" Windows installs the NIC just fine, and everything appears where it should in Win2000. I thought that there may be a slight chance that the Card or cable was actually bad. I bought a new card and cable today. Same results. Anyone else ever seen this? I would apprciate any guidance here. I could just wait till we get to this in class, but where's the fun in that..

Re: Networking 2000

If you are trying to connect two PCs together without a hub or switch then you need a crossover cable. A straight cable will not work.

Re: Networking 2000

Yep.... either a mini hub or cross-over cable is needed (unless you're running 10baseT coax with terminator resistors).

If you're running ethernet cable (cat3 or cat5) then you could purchase a mini hub ($40.00) which would allow you future expansion of the home network.
