Problems saving in OE6 to network

Hi,

We're having aproblem with Outlook Express 6 on XP Pro.

There's no problem when working locally, but it fails to save about 50% of the time when saving files to a network drive mapped from a windows 2000 server. There is no error code displayed, just a message saying that the 'command failed to complete.' There is usually either a zero-byte file or a fragment on the server after the error.

Any help would be really useful !!

Have you installed SP1 yet? It fixes a ton of networking issues.

Yes, and got all of the current patches from the windows update site.

Re: Problems saving in OE6 to network

From the various articles I've just read from MS, Outlook Express REALLY has problems saving its files on a Network Share. Here's one that may be helpful though.

Do you see anything in the 2K's Event Viewer? (Check all three logs)

Can you do file transfers with no problem from other apps like Word or Windows Explorer?

Can you put a sniffer on the circuit and see what is happening? (There are several freeware versions out there that you can load on the 2K - I suppose they will also work on the XP.)

Do you have SP1 for Explorer 6.0?

Jon/Ron

Many thanks for your input: it does seem that there is actually a bug in the GUI bit of IE, rather than the engine as after further investigation, these file attachments are saved perfectly if the message is opened first and then the attachment is saved using the 'File', 'Save Attachment' option. The problem with saving only manifests itself when you try to save the attachment from the drop-down menu when you right-click the attachment.
