Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

Hello Matthew!

I think is strange, a spyware can attack a remote connection services.

So, but you can try also with:

Spy-Bot and AdAware.
www.safer-networking.org/
www.lavasoft.de

There are free.

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

You could try MS's Port Query tool here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/832919

Check to see if Symantec or XP's firewall is blocking port 3389.

If a session is left on ( disconnected rather than loged off) "sometimes" the next connection is refused if the screen saver locks.

Is the disk allowed to sleep or power off?

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

Let's make sure nothing is hiding:

Download Blacklight trial from here:
http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/

Hit "I accept." It will take you to the download page.
Download blbeta.exe and save it to the Desktop.
Once saved... double click blbeta.exe (you may not be able to see the .exe) to install the program.
Click Accept Agreement and click Scan
This app may trigger a warning from your antivirus. Let the driver load.
Wait for it to finish.
If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl....big number

Please post contents of log in your next reply.

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

Blacklight found nothing.

Did you ever get it to keep logs?

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

the logs are being kept now. i am in the process of speaking to our vendor about a few problems, i will report back any findings.

thanks again for the assistance....even though we have not found a solution to the initial problem. I DO APPRECIATE THE CONTRIBUTIONS!

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

Matt,

we have noticed here that google toolbar and google desktop have had serious impacts on alot of the programs we run here in our office. you may want to try uninstalling them and see if your user is able to connect then. one other thing might be to verify that the users profile is not time restricted.

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

Thanks Tony. I will remove the toolbar (desktop is not installed on any computers), and keep an eye out. I am still experiencing this problem too. however its intermittent now. if i have someone manually power off (hold donw the power button) the computer and start it back up i can connect and log in.

Re: Remote desktop disconnects after logging in.

Hi All,

bringing life to this topic.

i have continued to have sparatic problems with remote desktop. the same problem infact. and i think i now know what was causing it.

It seems/appears that whenever a windows update is ready for install (OS Updates), the user can not connect to the computer via remote desktop. the only way is to have the computer physically turned off then back on.

how this works i don't know. but this appears to be the case on multiple computers, over multiple different networks.
