Unable to telnet, ssh, remsh, MP console

Hi All,

We are unable to telnet, ssh, remsh or connect through MP console to one of our Quality servers. Interestingly, from the VFP the system is showing as running normally.

The system is rp4440. SAP services were also running, but we cannot connect through the SAP GUI.

Need some guidance on what we can do...

This is somehow not clear ... if you cannot connect to MP, how can you see VFP???

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Unable to telnet, ssh, remsh, MP console

Hi Torsten,

Sorry my meaning is not clear-meant to say I cannot connect to the OS thru MP > CO (console). I can however connect to the MP itself

Re: Unable to telnet, ssh, remsh, MP console

Did it work before?

Maybe another application is blocking the console, check (ps) what is running on console.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

It was working until yesterday. But today, we are not getting the # or Login/Password prompt to get inside the OS and check 'ps' and other commands

But you can connect to the OS via network, right?

Hope this helps!

No, we are not able to connect through LAN. It was after that, that we tried connecting through MP CO (which also is not happening). Even ftp, remsh, etc are also not working

Re: Unable to telnet, ssh, remsh, MP console

If you cannot connect via network or MP there is probably only one choice left - bring it down and restart.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Since you can get to the MP login, networking is OK. When you type CO, you are connected to the console. Whether you get anything from the console connection depends on what is controlling the console. A do-nothing script or hung program could make the console look dead. But with OS networking failing, the server is likely hung in some sort of OS loop where nothing is running.

In this case, you'll want to use the MP connection to perform a memory dump for analysis. Login to the console, type CM and then TC (RS just resets the system and starts a reboot). TC will first dump memory to the dump area, then reboot and gzip much of the dumped memory to /var/adm/crash. That will get your system back, assuming that the problem is not a hardware failure. Open a call with HP to get the crash dump decoded.
