WINS Server doesn't works fine with another network

Hi to all,

I have this problem:

I have a WINS server in the 192.168.1.0/24 network.
I have another network like 192.168.2.0/24.

In the second net 192.168.2.0/24, I have to use (..) the WINS server 192.168.1.100 (first net!)

The second net 192.168.2.0/24 have an own DNS server 192.168.2.10 and the primary net have an own DNS server 192.168.1.10.

If the users of second net set like primary DNS 192.168.1.10 (it is in the WINS server net) the system works fine; if the users of second net set like primary DNS 192.168.2.10 (the own DNS server) the system doesn't work.

I would to use, in the second net, the DNS server of this net and like WINS server the server of the primary (another in general) net...

Can somebody help to me?

Best Regards,
--Carlo

Hello,

Are you sure that the clients have right to access these WINS and DNS servers without problem?

Go ahead :)

Re: WINS Server doesn't works fine with another network

What type of systems are you using on your networks and what are you trying todo.
Windows NT etc? are you trying to map a drive?

Issue could be name resolution, the system (A) works out the IP address of another system (B) from Wins because it (B) has been registered with WINS server.

Are the DNS servers working in the same DNS domain or are you using FQDN?
