What do the 2014 World Cup and wireless networking have in common?

By Dragana Beara, Sr. UC&C and Mobility Marketing Manager, HP Networking

Dragana Beara

The answer to the question above is “both make fans happy”. HP has played a major role in ensuring that the 2014 World Cup goes off without a hitch. For the fans that gather at Brazil’s state of the art stadiums specially designed and built for this event, it is the soccer outcomes that should most affect their levels of happiness and we at HP intend to keep it that way. Our goal is to ensure that they are not frustrated with anything that hinders their ability to communicate and share their memories with loved ones, in real time.

How did HP get the opportunity to provide network connectivity for a stadium with capacity of 45,000 people, and the expectation that at any given time there will be 9,000 concurrent users on the network? HP is a market leader in unified wired and wireless LAN technology, as affirmed by Gartner’s 2014 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Wired and Wireless LAN Access Infrastructure.

HP’s Unified Wired and Wireless LAN solution ensures that fans are able to seamlessly connect and post photos, videos and comments on all social media platforms using their smart phones and tablets. In addition to the superb technology product portfolio, unified access, security and management are ensured with HP’s Intelligent Management Center (IMC) software.

Delivering the Intelligent Edge

The stadium solution that HP provided for the 2014 World Cup is the ultimate among BYOD solutions. It not only offers easy access and connectivity to up to 9000 concurrent users with all kinds of different devices, but it also provides the ability for network managers to have full control of their network. For example, network admins know what devices are attempting to access the network and they have the ability to provide controlled access for those who could pose a security threat (Android devices prone to malware), or those who are abusing the network bandwidth. With the HP solution, network administrators also have the ability to view the entire network on a single pane of glass allowing for easier monitoring.
