What is subnet and lan switching in unix .....

Hello ,

I have got any issue on some servers where subnet went down and servers got rebooted.

I have my doubts for the following points.

What is subnet for?

I saw my servers went down  due to subnet going down  due to which lan switch occured.

What is this lan swithch.

Apart from this  only package went down on some server while server was still up.
