Which socks client to use within HP Intranet?

Hi,

According to HP-MS Networking information (http://network.europe.hp.com/web/socks/#Client) we now have to use a socks client for Windos that is only an evaluation version that run out in October...

Does anybody know if there is a more permanent solution from HP?

I have the same problem. You can try the Hummingbird SOCKS Client. I was told it is free, but I can not make it work though.

I use SocksCap from NEC

Socks WWW site:
http://www.socks.nec.com/

Socks FTP site:
ftp://ftp.nec.com/pub/socks/

See:
http://socks.hp.com/socksv5/

Later,
Bill
It works for me (tm)

Re: Which socks client to use within HP Intranet?

John, Thanks. We will investigate this.

Bill: Thanks, but that V5 is the one I was referring to and we use now :-)
But NEC changed the evaluation period from 1 year to 2 months and it is not to be used for commercial use.
You then have to use a licensed version and HP still does not supply one for windoze...

Re: Which socks client to use within HP Intranet?

Peter,

I finally got the Hummingbird sock client to work. However, because it is free, there is a catch. Unlike sock cap when hummingbird sock client is being run, you will not be able to run local telnet, ftp or even search the internet with MS explorer. Basically, the whole PC is socksified. To disable it, the socks.cfg file must be renamed or remove.

John,

Thanks, that puts the usability of the software in a somewhat different perspective... :-(
I will pass it on to the persons working on it.
