Re: Win 2k network with router
Andras,
Something has come to my mind. Configure the Scope options in the DHCP to fwd the client to the router, option [003].
Also, why not demoting your server and join it to be a member server with the same of the IP address. This way, your Mam will be able to login to your server and surf the web at the same time!
Just a thought!

Re: Win 2k network with router
Just minor correction:
*same of the IP address*
should be "the same RANGE of the router IP address" particulary if the router is configured as a DHCP Server!
You might need a switch in your LAN.
Also, as far as security, I'm using zone Alarm firewall in my Win2k server but you'll need to configure it to trust all the clients otherwise they'll be unable to communicate with the server, it's free download it from here:

Is the router wireless? is it located next door (in your neighbor house)?

Re: Win 2k network with router
Hi again,
Say your mom IP is A, win2k (linked to a) is B, win 2k (liked to the other segment) is C, router to 2k is D IP.
When your mom performes an Internet access, A asks for a DNS, say "who is www.google.com". B replies... B !
Then performs the same request through C, D forwards as C is allowed.
So your mom opens explorer and this means 'http_get http://www.google.com/index.html' to google IP, which is (for her) B. Receiving the query, B forwards (routes) it to C, so to D, which then learns that path to A is thru C.
So now your router knows your mom's PC, and traffic goes thru...
UNLESS ! There is a firewall preventing traffic to unknown subnets, such as the one your mom is on...
Don't believe ? Read about routers, or just try it...
