Windows equivalent of .netrc file

Good day all,

Our workstations are running Windows XP pro, fully patched.
Is there an equivalent to unix/linux .netrc file?
I know there is a registry key to show it's location... but nothing else.

I created a file called "netrc" in default directory Windows\system32\drivers\etc but am still unable to ftp to outside servers. I can do so from our linux servers. The ftp call just hangs.

Is there a different format for this file in Windows?
Is there anything else I must do?

Thanks.

Re: Windows equivalent of .netrc file

is your requirement to do an FTP to outside servers (which u mean by servers located outside of your firewall)??

if this is yes, then i do the FTP in the following 2 ways
1) Use IE (internet explorer) to browse thru the FTP location
ex., url will be ftp://:@
2) I use a FTP client software like WS FTP s/w client. I run this application thru an SOCKS software eg., (Sockscap) and then access the site

Hope this helps

Re: Windows equivalent of .netrc file

Wow...
I have been using Windows for 10 years now and had never tried to ftp using the IE URL...

Thanks.

PS the corporate firewall is blocking all FTP sessions. must use a device outside the firewall.

Thanks again.

Re: Windows equivalent of .netrc file

Raynald,

Have you tried setting up IIS software on windows? I use it and all you have to do on the windows side is use IIS to set up virtual drives or folders that you want to access. On your unix box, add a windows user & password to your .netrc file and you can ftp anywhere you want on the windows box.

Hope this helps.
