Wireless Weirdie

I am running a Pavillion DV9520 laptop using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. I connect via wifi to the router in the next room. It works fine. However, if I switch to the desk behind me, which involves turning the laptop 180 degrees, it keeps losing contact with the Internet. Network Manager still shows a connection at 50% but cannot get any website, Switch back and all OK.

This looks like an aerial problem within the laptop. Any suggestions?
