lan keeps sporatically bouncing up/down
We have 2 nics in a ia64 hp server rx2620
running HPUX 11.31 with APA configured. Sporactically the lan keeps bouncing up/down for some unknown reason.
This first came to my attendtion from our network guys who mentioned that he's seeing problems on the switch logs. Looking into the hosts syslog I noted the lan problem:
syslog:
ep 12 17:44:16 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 - lan1 is down
Sep 12 17:54:07 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 - lan1 is up
Sep 15 08:42:06 nesaweb xntpd[1653]: synchronized to xxxx, stratum=1
Sep 15 12:56:57 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 - lan1 is down
Sep 15 12:56:57 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 - lan0 is down
Sep 15 12:56:57 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 is down
Sep 15 12:59:10 nesaweb xntpd[1653]: synchronisation lost
Sep 15 13:00:21 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 - lan0 is up
Sep 15 13:00:21 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 is up
Sep 15 13:00:37 nesaweb vmunix: APA/LM: LA:lan900 - lan1 is up
Sep 15 13:01:18 nesaweb xntpd[1653]: synchronized to xxxxx, stratum=1
Can someone shed some light on how to resolve this? lanman doesn't show anything.

Re: lan keeps sporatically bouncing up/down
Are you seeing this errors from the day systems configured or just started recently?
How APA is configured .. Active/Active or Active/Passive?
Do we have required configuration done at switch side to support APA?

Re: lan keeps sporatically bouncing up/down
After looking at the nettllog - it was reporting lan cable disconnections. Looks like a bad cable.

Re: lan keeps sporatically bouncing up/down
Not likely, because you are seeing the problem on two different lan's, lan0 and lan1, which are aggregated to make lan900.
Look for a problem common to both lan cables on the switch side of the connection.
