"Stale" NFS mounts in rpc.mountd?

Hello everyone,

I recently noticed that a few of our NFS servers are showing remote mounts for servers that no longer exist. Ie, if I do a showmount -a:

[/] root@austinh #showmount -a
(anon):/export/sapmnt/RAP
alamo:/export/sapmnt/RAP
alamoh:/export/sapmnt/RAP
alpine:/export/usr/sap/trans
alpine:/export/sapmnt/RAP
avery.mck.us.ray.com:/export/sapmnt/RAP
avery.mck.us.ray.com:/export/usr/sap/trans
dallas.mck.us.ray.com:/export/usr/sap/trans
elritou.mck.us.ray.com:/var/tmp
euless.mck.us.ray.com:/export/usr/sap/trans
pecos:/export/usr/sap/trans
pecos3:/export/sapmnt/RAP
pecos3:/export/usr/sap/trans
pecosh:/export/sapmnt/RAP

The server "pecos3" no longer exists -- it was only a test server for awhile. We're going to be doing a full reboot of our environment this weekend (maintenance weekend), and we'd like to know how to clear up these stale mounts as reported above.

Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!

remove them from /etc/exports. try umount'ing them first.

Harry,

These entries aren't in /etc/exports. I'm not using showmount -e. This is showmount -a.

Re: "Stale" NFS mounts in rpc.mountd?

My experience is that the output of showmount -a has always been iffy at best (back to my Sun days). Check out these threads:

Basically, you want to stop rpc.mountd, rm /etc/rmtab, and restart rpc.mountd.
