slow wan hpux > hpux...windows ok?

Hey,

I've got a weird problem.

45-50Mb connection

rx2600

100mb nic

100 Full Duplex Auto Neg On

scp from hpux to hpux 1.5MB/s

scp from hpux to windows box 4.5MB/s

why!!!??!??!? this is driving me insane.

Is there a tunable i can play with to fix this?

Please help.

You say 100 Full Duplex Auto Neg On.  That accounts for one of the hpux nodes.  What does the other say?

Re: slow wan hpux > hpux...windows ok?

Hi,

Both source and desitination servers are set to Autoneg On, this includes the switch.

Changeing to Auto Neg off made it unuseable and changing it to manual on both the switch and the server made no difference.

Thank you.

i don't know that it's correct to treat what you're doing as "equals".  (in America we'd say you're comparing apples to oranges...)

what's your network infrastructure like?

what's the work-load on your hpux systems?

what's the work-load on your windows box?

(just to ask a few questions...)

the number of variables that could be contributing to this are great and (so far) without answers.

Re: slow wan hpux > hpux...windows ok?

Hi,

I've had a network guy take a look....a long hard look and it looks ok. This seems to be evident in the being able to transfer the same file through a Windows box quickly.

I've checked the load on the serves and its fine, granted its an scp transfer but the the CPU was less than 30% during the transfer.

It's a weird problem that i haven't seen before and it only seems to be effected our HPUX boxes.

Thank you.

Your HP-UX and Windows servers are in same subnet or different ?

Same subnet.

I tried rsync with the same result.

Re: slow wan hpux > hpux...windows ok?

How about a few details:

  • HP-UX OS Version and Fusion Level of both HP-UX systems in your test environment
  • Patch level of LAN-Common and LAN-LINK (i.e. driver)
  • netperf syntax
  • Does the HP-UX -> HP-UX problem slow performance happen in both directions?

Re: slow wan hpux > hpux...windows ok?

Hey,

11.31, not sure what fusion level is.

Just updated to latest iether and igelan drivers

netperf -H server -l 20 -f M port XXXX

Same speed in both directions

After looking at some tcpdumps i can see the window size negiates OK between the HPUX and windows box but when its windows to HPUX the window size drops to 32768, even though i have set the xmit and recv ndd settings to 65536?

thank you.
