Discover Las Vegas Recap: Big Crowds, Big IoT Announcements
HPE Discover Las Vegas was a tremendous success. Over 11,000 customers and over 150 OEMs attended the three-day conference. Once again, this year’s event included exclusive breakout sessions and demonstrations for OEMs. There were lively discussions about new technologies and OEM business opportunities. And a special OEM reception at Madame Tussauds provided a unique opportunity to network with other HPE OEMs and to have some fun.
One of the big topics at the show was the Internet of Things. As I noted in a recent blog, IDC expects the worldwide IoT market to reach $1.7 trillion by 2020. HPE OEMs are developing IoT solutions for a wide range of industries including energy, manufacturing, security and surveillance, telecommunications and transportation sectors. HPE announced several new IoT products and strategic partnerships at the event that can help you tap into the massive IoT market more quickly and cost-effectively. The event featured 27 live interactive and hands-on IoT demos, and 50 presentation/discussion sessions. Content spanned across sectors from healthcare to manufacturing; use cases ranged from monitoring to machine learning; and best practices were covered from security to organizational change. HPE, customer, and partner on-stage experience stories brought the opportunities of IoT to life.
New HPE Edgeline IoT Systems Enable Big Data and Analytics at the Network Edge
The Internet of Things introduces unprecedented scalability and performance challenges for OEM solution architects. Vast numbers of devices will generate massive volumes of data that has to be reliably gathered and processed in near real-time. HPE believes the best way to achieve massive scalability is by implementing a distributed IoT architecture that pushes data processing and control functions to the edge of the network.
Our newly announced Edgeline EL1000 and Edgeline EL4000 systems deliver integrated data capture, control, compute and storage functionality at the network edge for ultimate performance, speed and scalability. They are ideal for analyzing big data, controlling industrial processes and executing business decisions—quickly and efficiently. Built to withstand shock, vibration and extreme temperatures, the new Edgeline systems are hardened for field deployment in manufacturing, energy, transportation and telecommunications applications.
New IoT Partnerships for the Industrial IoT
We also announced IoT partnerships with industry leaders GE Digital, National Instruments and PTC. Aimed at industrial use cases for the Internet of Things, these joint solutions combine the very best of Operational Technology and Information Technology. If you are developing smart systems for the aerospace, oil and gas, manufacturing or automotive industries, these integrated OT/IT platforms can help you accelerate time-to-market and gain a competitive edge.
