HPE Acquires Security Analytics Firm Niara
Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced its acquisition of Niara, a Sunnyvale, California-based behavioral security analytics firm on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 to enhance the security at the intelligent edge. Niara, a leader in the emerging User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA) security market segment, will operate within HPE Aruba to enhance the company's ClearPass network security portfolio of wired and wireless network infrastructure.
The company first emerged from stealth in June 2015 with the promise of using big data security analytics to help the organization improve security. Niara is indeed a proven leader in this space. Niara's products use big-data analytics and machine learning on enterprise traffic packet, and log traces to predict attacks. With this acquisition, HPE is poised to leverage Niaraโs product to enhance HPE Aruba ClearPass network security for wired as well as wireless network infrastructure. With these two products, HPE is all set to provide the industryโs most advanced attack detection system.
Niara's product automatically detects and maintains baseline characteristics for all devices and users connected globally across the enterprise. Once a baseline is established, the solution actively looks for malicious and network spoofing activities that may be a real potential security threat. It indeed saves a lot of time. Investigating individual security incidents can easily consume time up to 25 hours, whereas deploying Niaraโs solution in the enterprise can help you detect such vulnerable threats in less than a minute with just four mouse clicks, courtesy power of machine learning.
Looking to the future, IHS forecasts that the IoT market will grow from an installed base of 15.4 billion devices in 2015 to 30.7 billion devices in 2020 and 75.4 billion in 2025 Source. The rapidly increasing number of interconnected devices and systems today brings both benefits and concerns for our customers. Niara helps IT organizations employ behavioral analytics by identifying activities of a normal user compared to activities performed by a compromised user account, especially by cyber criminals.
To conclude, Niaraโs behavioral analytics technology integration with our ClearPass Policy Manager has allowed us to strengthen our position in the marketplace. We can now offer our customers the industryโs most advanced threat detection and prevention solution for network security for not only wired and wireless devices but also Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
