HPE CEO Antonio Neri this Discover on Why Edge Computing Is the Key to Powering Your Future
At Hewlett Packard Enterprise's (HPE) Discover 2018 Madrid event on Nov. 27, the company announced a series of efforts that further help to expand and redefine how servers used in the modern enterprise. Speaking in his keynote at the company’s Discover 2018 event in Madrid, HPE CEO Antonio Neri said that the edge is set to play a major part in the company’s strategy going forward, describing the technology as, “the next major disruption.”
“The opportunity of the edge is about using technology and data to bring personal rewards,” Neri said, “there is a revolution that's happening about the explosion of data all around us, generated at what we call the edge, and that will only continue to grow.
Among the solutions is new HPE Edgeline Converged Edge systems, including server hardware, systems management, and operational technologies (OT) integration. HPE also announced new composable cloud elements for its ProLiant DL servers, as well as enhancements for the HPE SimpliVity hyperconverged server platform.
"The edge is all about using technology and data to redefine the experiences and business outcomes you deliver to your end customers, making them more satisfied and loyal," HPE CEO Antonio Neri stated. "For your employees, the edge helps them to be more productive and engaged, whether they are in an office, oil rig, or university."

Edgeline provides compute, storage and analytics at the edge of networks and helps to enable the Internet of Things (IoT) deployments. Among the new Edgeline capabilities is the OT Link Platform, which aims to help connect industrial networks with IP-based enterprise networking architectures.
“We believe the enterprise of the future will be edge-centric, cloud-enabled and data-driven,” Neri added, “our purpose, and the work that we do, is to provide you with an edge cloud architecture that can utilize all your data.”
“Our strategy is to accelerate your transformation from the edge to the cloud, helping you to connect all your data, all your edges, all your clouds, everywhere.”
Earlier this year, Neri announced that HPE would be investing $4bn in edge computing as it looked to get in at the ground floor of what promises to be a booming market, and he doubled down on that pledge in his speech.
The company has this week revealed a series of new launches in both the hardware and software side to mark the first major advances in this area, including a major push on the latter to help customers accelerate deployment of new hardware.
“The opportunity of the edge is all about using technology and data to bridge the digital and physical worlds,” Neri noted, “the edge is where your experiences happen...it is everywhere technology gets put into action, and I believe it is the next big opportunity for all of us.”
The new Edgeline systems management software is a purpose-built platform designed to help organizations manage edge deployments. The HPE Edgeline Integrated System Manager integrated into HPE Edgeline Converged Edge Systems and enabled administrators to provision, update, and management systems.
When it comes to fleets of edge systems, the new HPE Edgeline Infrastructure Manager is available to help organizations remotely manage thousands of Edgeline Converged Edge Systems. For overall workload management, the HPE Edgeline Workload Orchestrator provides an application catalog and repository for edge applications.
HPE is also releasing new hardware with the Edgeline EL300 Converged Edge System, which is an Intel Core i5-based system. Each EL300 Converged Edge System can provide up to 32 GB of memory and 3 TB of storage in a low-energy fanless platform.
