HPE and NEC Join Forces to Accelerate Global Adoption of Mobile-First Networking Portfolio

HPE and NEC Corporation strengthen their strategic alliance and expand joint solution development to capture new opportunities in key markets. NEC and HPE signed MOU and announced the collaboration of NEC SDN solution that is called UNIVERGE. By integrating HPE and Aruba, a Hewlett-Packard Enterprise company, wireless and wired networking portfolio with NEC Software-Defined Networking (SDN) solutions, the companies can quickly accelerate the adoption of mobile-first networking to improve workplace productivity.

Additionally, the extension of HPE's and NEC's joint development in SDN also enables both companies' customers to improve the agility and effectiveness of their networks to advance key business objectives. Customers can enhance their existing networking platform to a next generation infrastructure to meet the needs of mobility in today's digital workplace and support the introduction of Internet of Things (IoT) devices in the enterprise.

NEC SDN controllers and switches integrate with HPE hardware and its subsidiary, Aruba. From the technology integration, NEC offers advanced voice, video, and managed services to customers in Japan and the Asia-Pacific region first, followed by the Americas and Europe. Aruba wireless products and software selected for the wireless infrastructure. The HPE Aruba hardware includes switches, routers, wireless access points, controllers, and network management and network access control (NAC) products.

HPE OEM provides integrated form of business to NEC that simplifies the whole process and good merit of time to market. A wide range of HPE Aruba products are listed in the UNIVIERGE SDN solution such as Access Points, Controllers, AirWave, and ClearPass.

NEC and HPE have worked together for 21 years. This integration is part of a strategy to target what the partners are calling โ€œmobile-first networkingโ€ to enterprise customers. While NEC benefits from HPE and Arubaโ€™s technology, HPE gets the market access of NEC in Japan and globally. HPE is looking into Wired Switch opportunities to replace some areas of Cisco.  If accomplished, the size of each project can be even bigger and also, this is a win back from Cisco.
