HPE is Driving CO2e out of the Supply Chain

What is good for our planet, is good for global business. Reducing the climate impact is the right thing to do for the planet. Itโ€™s no secret that energy is a major business cost, either directly or via the supply chain. But until recently, those indirect supply chain costs and associated carbon emissions were seen as an issue primarily for suppliers.  Businesses today face growing pressure to meet tougher procurement standards as customers look to reduce all costs financial and environmental from the products they purchase. In fact, the private sector is currently brimming with ideas and energy focused on producing solutions to many of the vexing, complex obstacles to achieving sustainable societies.

As a global organization with a supply chain that spans the world, HPE has a responsibility to build the capabilities of our suppliers, hold them accountable, and work together with them to reduce the impact of the operations. To meet the growing demand for connectivity while managing emissions throughout the value chain, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has launched the worldโ€™s first comprehensive supply chain management program based on climate science. The initiative will provide suppliers with the tools they need to develop a customized plan to reduce emissions and drive a global standard for supplier greenhouse gas engagement and reduction.

As part of this new program, HPE will have certain goals as below-

  • 80% of HPE manufacturing suppliers will be enabled through capacity-building to set science-based emission reduction targets in their operations by 2025. Through this, our suppliers will avoid 100 million metric tons of emissions equals to taking 21 million cars off the road for an entire year.
  • HPE needs to reduce manufacturing-related GHG emissions by 15% by 2025 to become the first IT Company to establish a supply chain goal that is in line with climate science.

HPEโ€™s new science-driven strategy rounds out a suite of existing climate change targets, including a commitment to reaching 100 percent renewable energy through RE100 and a goal to increase the efficiency of its product portfolio 30 times by 2025. Of course, no one company can solve climate change it requires global collaboration and commitment. Read the full story here!
