Capturing a local port for a network printer

I am having a problem with trying to capture a local printer port. Here's the
basics:

I have a peer to peer network with a networked printer. All wkstations are
running Win9x. The users want to be able to print to their networked printer
when using their DOS program. This printer was setup on the network using
JetAdmin and works fine with windows. The problem occures when trying to
capture a local port to any station. I get an error message relating to unable
to find the path.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Capturing a local port for a network printer

Hello,

The problem you describe could be related to several things so could you
provide a little more information?

What command are you using or exactly how are you trying to capture a local
port? Have you tried capturing using the net use command?
ex: net use lpt1: \\\

What is the exact error message you receive?

Are you doing this from a login script? If so, try clearing the "Spool MS-DOS
Print Jobs" option in the Printer properties.

I don't want to send you down the wrong path so if you could provide those
details, maybe I can help.

Re: Capturing a local port for a network printer

Like one of your earlier messages, we are having problems capturing LPT1.

We have a peer to peer network with a networked HP 8100 printer. All
workstations are running Win95/98. The users want to be able to print to the
printer from an DOS program. The printer was setup on the network using
JetAdmin and works fine with windows. The problem occures when trying to
capture a local port from any station. We get an error message relating to
unable to find the path.

"The computer or sharename you specified in the network path cannot be located"

The name I had used was HP_Networked_Printers which I can see in my Network
Neighborhood,

Many thanks in advance for your help in this.
