Excahnge server troubleshooting.

Is there some good document on MS Exchange server functionality, and troubleshooting.

Alvi:

I suggest you look here for starters:

http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/

or if you have a specific error/symptom, search the Microsoft KnowledgeBase for help:

Re: Excahnge server troubleshooting.

Thanks a lot Roger, very useful links to start off from.

Following is the error message in the eventlog

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeSA
Event Category: MAPI Session
Event ID: 9175
Description:
The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:
The Microsoft Exchange Server computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance.
The MAPI provider failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store

Following is the link to the Knowledgebase solution for the problem we have when mounting ...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;253226&Product=exch2k

Now the solution is to remove the Public store datanbase associated files ... where do I find these ... and how do I know if they have content?

will appreciate any help ... new in this ... and immediately in the deep.

Regards,

-Alvi

Alvi:

Have you rebooted the machine where the Exchange Server resides? After rebooting, if you go to Control Panel/Services and look under Exchange and Microsoft Exchange, do all of the pertinent services for Exchange seem to be running? I assume they are not and the link you posted is for the message that appears in the Event Viewer.

I assume Exchange is running on a WIN2K server. Have you installed WIN2K SP4? Have you installed Echange Server SP3 (assuming it's Exchange 2000) and the Post-SP3 patches? See:

Re: Excahnge server troubleshooting.

Omar ;

Before the really heavy troubleshooting begins, you need to give us the specs on what hardware you are using, what version of windows and exchange you are using, and how many users (or logins per day) you have.

Also, taking the Event ID # and going to Google might help. Just search using the Event Id # .............

Re: Excahnge server troubleshooting.

Just a thought,
You might have someone trace your physical layer to make sure segments are good.

You might try starting a monitoring session.

Definitely scan for viruses..............
