HP 88780B 9 Track Tape - Driver for NT
Is it possible to us an HP88780B 9 track tape drive on a new NT machine? NT
4.0 SP5 is installed. Controller is an Adaptec SCSI controller.
Would like to obtain NT drivers for this. Can anyone lead me to one?

Re: HP 88780B 9 Track Tape - Driver for NT
Since this drive (a derivative of the 7980 series)
was designed for the Unix market, it may be difficult
to use on a NT machine without a specific backup program that has it in its
supported drives list.
The third party programs that support the DLT's and
opticals may work but you would have to ask those companies.

Re: HP 88780B 9 Track Tape - Driver for NT
I have been testing a software package called NovaStor Exchange that allows me
to read/write to almost any SCSI device. Drivers aren't required. Within a
few minutes of installing the package, I was reading 9-track, 3480/3490, and
8mm tapes.
Thanks for the use of this forum.

Re: HP 88780B 9 Track Tape - Driver for NT
We were refered to NoveStor Exchange by Firstlogic when we converted from a
Unix box to a NT box.
It works fine.
However, I have noticed that when we load a tape, the tape drive backs up and
rewinds the tape 10 times before it stops a "BOT". What is happening that
requires the tape to be checked 10 times?
This did not happen on the Unix system using the "dd" command to read in tapes.
