Need to change a login ID and Password

My father-in-law has a Compaq presario (448 MB Ram). He continuously receives pop-ups from the HP assistant. They load automatically and can stack up 75 - 100 panes. He doesn't know what his logon id is (he sign in as 'guest' with no priviliges). I need some help to change his log on and change the preferences to stop the HP pop-ups. Thanks, Mark
