Reformat C: drive using NT

I purchased a HP Vectra from my office and would like to reformat the hard drive and start fresh. Tried to reformat and got the message "Cannot lock current drive". Anyone know how to deal with this one?

Re: Reformat C: drive using NT

Hi Tracy,

How do u boot ur system ? You have to boot through a floppy disk and run the format command. Seems like you are trying to format the C: drive after booting from the same drive.

For doing a fresh installation:

1) Boot through the Windows NT installation CD and recreate all disk partitions and then format it. OR boot through a floppy and recreate all partitions and then format it.

2) Install the OS on the newly formatted HDD.

This may solve your problem

Re: Reformat C: drive using NT

Hi,

If you have a DOS bootable disk, boot through that and do:

fdisk - with this you can recreate all partitions. Then:

format c: /u/s
