Re: System and sys password

Hi,

Password is never recovered. Only way is to recall what you have given earlier.
If that is not an Administrator User then you can reset users password by logging in as administrator.

Re: System and sys password

Hi Carl,

I dont think you can find out password. Probably, with some internal tools with Oracle ?

Re: System and sys password

Shalom carl,

Once the password is forgotten in oracle it is not recoverable.

Thats why we had a policy of writing down passwords for oracle during isntallation in Chicago.

Oracle actaully does a good job encrypting it so you can't just browse and hack it.

Re-install oracle and perhaps follow my advice above.

Re: System and sys password

Hi Carl,

I am not sure this will be useful infact, i never tried this. There are some password crackers available for Oracle to get the password, this link may help you,

Re: System and sys password

Hi Carl,

If you did not change the passwords of sys and system then they will be the default passwords. From oracle 9i onwards svrmgrl is not supported. You can only loon as
sqlplus /nolog or
sqlplus "/ as sysdba"

On NT: On NT the OSOPER and OSDBA groups are hard coded names thus:

Group Name Oracle uses this as...
~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ORA_OPER OSOPER group for all instances
ORA_DBA OSDBA group for all instances
ORA_sid_OPER OSOPER group for a specific Oracle SID
ORA_sid_DBA OSDBA group for a specific Oracle SID
When you issue a 'CONNECT / AS SYSDBA' Oracle checks if your NT logon is a member of the 'ORA_sid_DBA' or 'ORA_DBA' group.
Hey a small confusion,
You have lost the password of which:
Oracle or Windows
Couple of posts here suggest for windows and other couple for oracle :-)
Re: System and sys password
hi,
assuming this is an Oracle password problem, you can just connect as "/as sysdba" on the local machine and do an "alter user system identified by xxxx;'
hope this helps!
kind regards
