cursor jumps & keyboard stops working

Im having trouble with my Pavilion ze5300 and Im hoping someone can suggest a solution. While using the computer the mousepad will suddenly start responding erratically to my touch (jumping around the screen). At the same time all of the keys on the keyboard take on functions other than their intended functions. Restarting the computer is the only thing that clears up the problem, and this doesn't always work. Sometime it goes hours and days without working and then just fixes itself...temporarily. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Re: cursor jumps & keyboard stops working

check spyware, as stated above. but also consider running the manufactures diagnostics. it could be a PS2 bus problem.
There have been Innumerable people who have helped me. Of course, I've managed to piss most of them off.

Re: cursor jumps & keyboard stops working

You know this can be cause by many things,
First check the end of the connection to make sure all the pins are there(missing or broken) and not bend on both the keyboard and mouse connection. Maybe it the keyboard itself or it could be the mouse too. Have you tried another extra keyboard laying around and the same thing with the mouse try a different mouse. Also try going to the control panel and then Keyboard or mouse check the hardware to see if it what you're currently using. Like my would say logitech USB wheel mouse which it is and the keyboard would say HID keyboard (Standard).

Re: cursor jumps & keyboard stops working

There are several updates for the touchpad software. Try them first.

If that doesn't help then get Hijack This and let it scan your system and post the results here.

I assume you have ruled out a sticking key?
