How much memory do you have. I think Vista recommends 1GB minimum. The other thing you can do is adjust your virtual memory but if windows does it for you then I would leave it like that and just get more memory.
If you have a second hard drive that is really big you might want to move your swap file (page file) over to that drive and make it bigger.
