I think you can use the recovery partition & recovery the system.
While doing so, Please read carefully, It will clearly say that "NO User DATA file is erased".
It basically rebuilds the OS files. Make sure you put in the same user name. Once up & running.. do a search for the required files.

I am not sure if that can be done. I havent tried that myself. There could be an compatibility issue.
I believe for the recovery partition you need to press F11 key on POST.
