The upgrade from NT to Windows 2000 is pretty straightforward but there are
several things you need to do and check before proceeding. Microsoft has a
very good checklist of the steps to follow for upgrading. I'll include the
link for you below.
Make sure you follow their suggestions, check for hardware and software
compatibility, check with your PC vendor for BIOS and driver updates, etc. If
you follow the checklist and all of your hardware and software checks out, the
upgrade should go smoothly.
