Access cisco VPN from OpenVMS

Does anyone know if there is a way to connect using cisco VPN from OpenVMS. Are there any client software that will allow for this from OpenVMS.
If not, is there a way to use VPN or SSL from OpenVMS

Thanks in advance.

I believe a more general way of stating what you need is client software for OpenVMS capable of the IPSEC or PPTP protocols. I've heard somewhere that IPSEC is on the roadmap, but I don't think it is available yet.

SSL as well as SSH and a number of other security mechanims are already available, depending on which version of which TCP/IP package you are using. I suggest you look at the various offerings here:

Re: Access cisco VPN from OpenVMS

Thank you for your reply.
The problem I have is that I need to connect to a remote database from VMS. The remote server allows for connection via cisco VPN. If currently there are no available client software for VMS capable of IPSEC or PPTP protocols I will have to read up on SSH or SSL. Thank you for the link on this.
I'm sure I will have more questions on SSH or SSL.

Re: Access cisco VPN from OpenVMS

It looks like Multinet has IPSEC capability now, but if you are not already using it, it could be painful to switch IP stacks just for that one feature:

According to the slide presentation here:

http://www.invenate.com/decus/2005_TUD/16_TCP_IP%20for%20OpenVMS%20_Jim%20Laciani.pdf

it may be a year or two before IPSEC becomes available in TCP/IP Services.

Re: Access cisco VPN from OpenVMS

One of the reasons VMS is getting a bad name over here is that it takes so long before they are on VMS and that they are not available in a backport to 7.3 (our version, upgrading costs a few man year).

slide 20 and 26 are interesting. IPSEC is not
going to be anytime soon.

Look at TCPWARE and MULTINET - they may have do it now and often run on earlier versions of VMS.
