Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

What's the history of this CIPCA-BA? In particular, is it known (recently) functional?

Have you tried re-loading the console firmware (and adapter firmware) here?

Here's the documentation, if you haven't already found it:

Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

Donna,

as far as I can recall, the CIPCA-BA is a 5.0V PCI card, so you would need to place it in two adjacent 5.0V PCI slots rather than the 3.3V slots.

See fig 4-16 in the attached link for slot specs on the ES45 model 2B

Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

I pulled them 2 years ago out of working 4100's and have tryed 2 of them
I'll update all the firmware again though - I might not have on that 2nd one I installed...

Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

Hmmm, is that memory not slightly misconfigured? If you put the 2GB options in slot 0 and 1, then they will interleave no?

What will we connected to the CIPCA?
A dual path Cipca will still be limited to 140mb/second roughly single scsi-2 speeds.
And the controllers and drives behind them are not too fast either by todays standards. ( The fibre channel connected EMC stuff )

I'm guessing you just want to connect to some legacy storage which still has to be maintained for other system needs.
From a performance, footprint and energy use perspective you should probably ditch the whole lot, but that may not be realistic.

Hein

Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

Hein is right, as is usual.

The 2 Gb Fibre Channel SAN gear is looking a little slow these days.

The CI 2 x 70 Mb gear here is way, way slow.

Some legacy hardware configuration being retired or scrubbed or such, may I presume? It might be easier to move the disk shelves over than to fuss with a CIPCA and CI cabling, if that is the case.

Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

Donna,

I'm going to agree with Duncan. You will have to use the four 5volt slots in the model 2B. Specifically PCI slots 3,6,9,10. Its been a long time since I've used a CIPCA, but off the top of my head I would think the intermodule ribbon cables would be long enough to span over slots 4 and 5.

Re: Adding CIPCA-BA to a ES45

thank you all it is the wrong pci slots.. thanks for the docs -- info and all the help!! my bad on the memory - That can/will be fixed. Trust me I am not using CIPCA by choice--- legacy and lack of $$ drive that! I am just in the trenches keeping running with no budget!! :-)
