Advance Server V7.3A - changing the Domain that the Alpha Server resides in

We have a Alpha server that has been happily resideing in our current NT Domain. I am just about to demote it from being a BDC to becomming a member server. I don't forsee any issues in this - however I am wary about the next step. I have been asked to move it from its current Domain and make it a member of our Windows 2003 domain. I note that in the documentation it states that the SAM database will be initalised. Is there a simply way that I can get a printout of all the settings as I believe that I will have to set up all our Print and directory shares again, and I don't fancy writing it all down long hand !

Any suggestions welcome - also has anyone else done this - and is anything else going to bite me :-(

Hi Helen,

v7.3A-ECO2 & ECO3 work with Win2003.

When you change your domain, the old ACL. and SHAREDB. files will be preserved in directory:

PWRK$LMROOT:[LANMAN.DATAFILES.ddmmmyyyyhhmmsstt]

where the ddmmyyyy... is the date-time when you did the change. After running pwrk$config and changing the Alpha's role and domain, just copy those two files back up to [lanman.datafiles] before you start the server.

Also, quoting from a post by Paul Nunez:

>>
But before you run pwrk$config, you need to enable a security policy on all
Windows 2003 domain controllers (it's disabled by default) in order for
Advanced Server to function in the domain:

Network access: Allow anonymous SID/Name translations

Hi,
you can change using PWRK$CONFIG but if my mind help me, windows 2k3 server doesn't accept member server.
Searching for documentation.

Antonio,

Win2003 *only* accepts member servers. Win2k will allow PDC, BDC and MEMBER. The OVMS Advanced Server needs to have its role defined as member before it can join the domain. Win2k3 is a pain, IMHO.
