Advanced Server: Error Upgrading SAM Databases

I receive the following errors when running PWrk$SetIni:

Reading current configuration parameters ...

Upgrading SAM databases...

%PWRK-F-SAMCHECK, error upgrading SAM databases

PWRK-F-CONFIGERR, severe error during configuration.

Error getting this server's role from the existing databases.
Make sure the file server or another utility is not running
You must execute @SYS$UPDATE:PWRK$CONFIG again.
The Advanced Server configuration is incomplete and cannot continue.

The environment:
OpenVMS v7.3-1
Advanced Server v7.3Aeco4

This happened immediately after installing ECO4. I can recreated the shares and rejoin the domain if needed. But I can not remember what files to delete in order for Pwrk$SetIni to run.

Please advise,

Re: Advanced Server: Error Upgrading SAM Databases

Jeff,

try putting your server in a dummy workgroup and afterwards try to rejoin the correct domain.

As an alternative, you may make backups of the DOMAINS and DATAFILES subdirs under PWRK$LANMAN and empty those directories and rerun PWRK$CONFIG.

Pls. note, that both ways remove all your sharedefinitions.

Re: Advanced Server: Error Upgrading SAM Databases

You must delete files in pwrk$lmdomains and PWRK$LMDATAFILES:ACL.;1,BUILTIN.;1,LSA.;1,SHAREDB.;1.

Re: Advanced Server: Error Upgrading SAM Databases

Thanks for the info Karl, but I can`t run Setini to change the domain name.

I will backup then remove the files as you suggest and see what happens.

Thanx again.

Enjoy,

Re: Advanced Server: Error Upgrading SAM Databases

Thanx Karl and Jiri,

That did it!

I deleted PWrk$Root:[LANMan.DataFiles...]*.*.* and PWrk$Root:[LANMan.Domains..]*.*.*; then ran PWrk$Config. Then re-added shares.

All is good now.

Enjoy,
