Alpha VMS 7.3 *.EXE files convert to I64 VMS 8.3-1H1

Is it possible to convert VMS executable files from v7.3-2 on an Alpha to VMS executable files on Itanium I64 without having source code (or .OBJ's)

Does a utility like that exist?

If the sources do not exist, the files may be able to be translated.

I bave used the translator, and it does work. There is admittedly some loss of performance. Recompilation is a far superior option.

Robert Gazelter has answered the direct question.

Note that some tools cannot be translated, either due to the age of the application executable image, or due to what the application image itself provides. OpenVMS Alpha compilers, for instance, won't translate at all well as they would (still) emit Alpha object code.

Image translation is a last resort strategy for an architecture migration, too. I'll presume you've looked around for replacements and alternatives for whatever this is, but (if not) some details on the "lost" code might be in order.
