Re: Alpha server DS25 : device name for SCSI DAT device ?

Hi,

Tape devices start with letter "M" . Give command $SHO DEV M or $SHO DEV MK . It will list tape devices. If you are not able to find out. Post the result of above commands.

Thanks & regards,

berlioz,

If you do a SHOW DEVICE, you'll see all the devices known to VMS. Look for something starting with an M (probably the tape is an MK device (SCSI tape unit)).

Re: Alpha server DS25 : device name for SCSI DAT device ?

SHOW DEVICE MK/FULL will show details of each scsi connected tape drive. The first line will show the device name. For a Digital DAT drive it will be TLZ10/TLZ09/or similar

Re: Alpha server DS25 : device name for SCSI DAT device ?

Berlioz,

The MBA devices are mailboxes. I'm not sure what the MP device is.

Is the tape unit well connected?
Is it visible at the console prompt? (You know the >>>)

Maybe your tape unit's SCSI-id conflicts with another device.

Could you give the output of the SHOW DEVICE command at the console prompt?

Re: Alpha server DS25 : device name for SCSI DAT device ?

what sort of DAT drive, what cable and what SCSI interface - I wonder if there's an incompatability there.
Also check that all connectors are properly plugged in with the clips.

It's an HP Storage works DAT tape drive (hot plug) installed (2 slots) in a BA610 disk drive cage with a Smart array 5300A backplane RAID controller

Re: Alpha server DS25 : device name for SCSI DAT device ?

Is the DAT drive is connected to the RAID controller or two the scsi busses represented by PKA, PKB?

RAID controllers don't usually support tape drives.
