Analyze/Disk/Repair on shadow volume

Hi,

O/S is OpenVMS V7.1-2.
When ana/disk/repair on a shadow volume gets lot of error messages,

%ANALDISK-W-CHKALTHOME
%ANALDISK-W-READHEADER
%ANALDISK-E-WRITEHEADER

No errors found in errlog.sys.
Any advise?

Regards,
Ronny

Re: Analyze/Disk/Repair on shadow volume

I would wanna do a image backup (to tape or disk) and restore this volume on same disk at earliest avalable opportunity.

Brief explanitions of messages are given below.

CHKALTHOME, invalid alternate home block, VBN 'n', RVN 'n'

Facility: ANALDISK, Analyze/Disk_Structure Utility

Explanation: The alternate home block at the specified virtual block of the
index file on the specified relative volume is corrupt.

User Action: None. The utility refreshes the alternate home block from the
primary home block.

READHEADER, file ('file-id') 'file-name' file header read error

Facility: ANALDISK, Analyze/Disk_Structure Utility

Explanation: An error was encountered during an attempt to read
the specified file header from the index file,
[000000]INDEXF.SYS;1, on the specified relative volume.

User Action: If the specified file header is currently in use, the file
can no longer be accessed by the operating system and must be
reconstructed from backup media. If the file header is not in
use, no action is necessary because the operating system will
not attempt to use it.

WRITEHEADER, file ('file-id') 'file-name' file header write error

Facility: ANALDISK, Analyze/Disk_Structure Utility

Explanation: An error was encountered during an attempt to write the
specified file header to the index file, [000000]INDEXF.SYS;1,
on the specified relative volume.

User Action: If the specified file header is currently in use, the file
can no longer be accessed by the operating system - it must
be deleted and reconstructed from backup media. If the file
header is not in use, no action is necessary because the
operating system will not attempt to use the file header.

Re: Analyze/Disk/Repair on shadow volume

Personally, I would remove the shadow volume, initialize it, and put it back into the volume group and let it rebuild itself - then check for errors. If you still have errors, you may need to replace the disk.
